A pulmonary infection caused by Mycobacterium kyorinense cured with a combination of levofloxacin and clarithromycin

A report from Japanese clinicians in the Division of Respiratory Diseases, Kawasaki Medical School, describes the case of a 63-year-old male with a previous history of pulmonary adenocarcinoma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease who was admitted because of fever, cough and purulent sputum. Examination of sputum cultures revealed the presence of Mycobacterium kyorinense and his symptoms improved following treatment with a combination of levofloxacin and clarithromycin.
