Norwegian role as the “Most Infection Free Country in the World” threatened The Norwegian healthcare system has been the envy of many countries due to strict drug control and, even today, the number of marketed antibiotics is 10-fold lower than in some other European countries. Although national levels of MRSA- and ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae are still very low, ampicillin and ciprofloxacin resistance in E. coli is causing concern. Closer antibiotic surveillance is needed and there is an urgent need for economic grants. PMID: 20706311Tidsskr Nor Laegeforen. 2010 Aug 12;130(15):1484-6.
