Moxifloxacin used as the “gold standard” for QT studies

Because of its well know adverse effects on cardiac rhythm (QT), moxifloxacin has become the “gold standard” for studies of drug effects on the heart. A paper published by staff in the Division of Cardiac and Vascular Sciences, University of London, UK, describes how a single 400 mg dose of moxifloxacin is proposed as a standard assay sensitivity test. The importance of linking QTc changes with drug plasma levels is also emphasized.
